Better Service: IRCC Starts Faster 🇨🇦Visa Processing Time Estimates

Huge changes towards Canadian immigration are happening rapidly and it may be quite difficult to catch up. However, so much great news shouldn’t be left out and not talked about. As a result, we will be discussing in detail some of the interesting updates we have for all eligible candidates to take advantage of this together with their family members year 2024 right from this month and beyond.

As of May 2, 2024 and in a concerted effort to fortify Canada’s immigration infrastructure, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is rolling out upgrades to its online processing time tool. These enhancements aim to empower new applicants with more accurate forecasts regarding the duration of their visa application processing mainly and even citizenship grants.

Introducing Forward-Looking Processing Times

The latest iteration of the processing times tool now offers forward-looking estimates for an array of applications, including but not limited to:

  • Canadian Experience Class (Express Entry)
  • Provincial Nominees Program (Express Entry and non-Express Entry)
  • Federal Skilled Workers (Express Entry)
  • Quebec Skilled Workers
  • Citizenship grants
  • Citizenship certificate (proof of citizenship)
  • Spouse or common-law partner living inside Canada
  • Spouse, common-law, or conjugal partner living outside Canada
  • Parents or grandparents

What exactly are forward-looking processing times?

These estimates provide applicants with a projection of the duration they can anticipate before a final decision is rendered on their application, or in the case of citizenship grant applicants before the oath of citizenship is administered. As stated via this, these estimations will undergo monthly updates to ensure they remain current and reflective of the prevailing processing landscape, thereby enabling applicants to plan their travel and life arrangements with precision.

Current Visa Examples

Today the 3rd of May 2024, these are the average processing times for the following visa applications as shown in the Canada visa processing tool;

  • Canadian Experience Class (Express Entry) – 5 Months
  • Enhanced-Provincial Nominees Program (E-PNP) – 6 Months
  • Base Provincial Nominees Program (Base Express Entry) – 11 Months
  • Federal Skilled Workers (Express Entry) – 5 Months
  • Quebec Skilled Workers – 9 Months
  • Citizenship grants – 8 Months
  • Citizenship certificate (proof of citizenship) – 3 Months
  • Spouse or common-law partner living inside Canada – 11 Months (Quebec – 27 Months)
  • Spouse, common-law, or conjugal partner living outside Canada – 13 Months (Quebec – 34 Months)
  • Parents or grandparents – 20 Months (Quebec – 33 Months)

These timings are subject to change anytime based on IRCC’s and external factors

Continued Commitment to Transparency

For applications not explicitly listed above, IRCC will continue to rely on backward-looking processing times. These times are derived from historical data, reflecting how long it took IRCC to process 80% of applications over the past six months for permanent residence programs, and within 8 or 16 weeks for temporary residence programs.

Guidance for Current Applicants

For individuals who have already submitted their applications and are awaiting processing, it’s essential to note that the new forward-looking estimates may appear shorter than the duration you’ve already been in the queue. This is due to the tool’s projection starting from the end of the current queue, accounting for various factors that influence processing times throughout the year.

However, rest assured that applications will continue to be processed in the order they were received. In most cases, your wait time should not exceed the newly projected forward-looking processing time for a final decision. It’s crucial not to reapply, as this would reset your position in the queue, resulting in extended processing times, as stated by IRCC.

A Promise of Continuous Improvement

IRCC remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing online tools through rigorous testing and ongoing research endeavors. These efforts are geared towards ensuring applicants enjoy a transparent, predictable, and welcoming experience throughout their immigration journey.

By providing applicants with more accurate processing time estimates, IRCC aims to instill confidence and clarity within Canada’s immigration system, fostering a smoother and more streamlined application process for all involved parties.
